Welcome to Veritas. I'm Anita, Masters qualified Art Therapist. Art Therapy relies primarily on visual rather than verbal expression. It also helps to access and resolve trauma held in the body where there are no conscious memories or verbal narrative by focusing on how it is experienced by the body in the present
Anita is a Master’s qualified Art Therapist and certified in Guided Drawing - an evidence-based sensorimotor somatic (body-based) trauma therapy. This 'bottom-up' technique releases and restores life's previously blocked natural rhythms through movement which is tracked on paper using pastels and paint. Anita provides support while guiding where necessary to ensure you remain connected to safety and resources whilst you explore this inner landscape.
"Therapy seeks to change the brain. Any effort to change the brain or systems in the brain must provide experiences that can create patterned, repetitive activation in the neural systems that mediate the function or dysfunction that is the target of therapy." - Bruce Perry
Anita is also certified in Clay Field Therapy which is an additional somatic or body-based method of Art Therapy which offers a deep connection through the sensory haptic feedback of touch using the hands. Somatic therapies are gaining greater understanding and support within trauma-informed therapy circles due to their ability to explore and resolve previously inaccessible body-based memories without requiring language. This method is suitable for both children and adults. Ask me about Clay Field Therapy or click on the image for a short video demonstration.
"To be neurodiversity affirming is to acknowledge that all neurotypes are equal in value and valid in their right to exist. For neurodivergent individuals, such as those who are Autistic or ADHD, neurodiversity affirming practices have shifted the focus of therapy to acceptance, accommodation and empowerment rather than teaching skills to ‘fit in’.
Creative Arts Therapies are especially suited to neurodiversity affirming ideas due to their focus on relationships and self-expression. To fully embrace neurodiversity affirming practice, a shift in philosophy and increased understanding of neurodivergent experiences is required" (ANZACATA) and this is where Veritas Art Therapy excels.
